History of the Foundation

sir Frederick banting legacy foundation

Honouring and preserving the legacy of Sir Frederick Banting while fighting Diabetes.

Our History

Sir Frederick Banting Legacy Foundation was created in 2005 by 8 Founding Directors at the request of the Town of New Tecumseth. The Town of New Tecumseth is the owner of the property and has invested in some of the property infrastructure. The Foundation is run by Volunteers and one part time staff.

Sir Frederick Banting Legacy Foundation (SFBLF) was preceded by the Sir Frederick Banting Educational Committee (1995-2005); which was a standing committee of the Town of New Tecumseth that included volunteers and a Council representative.

SFBLF was given the mandate in 2010 by the Town of New Tecumseth to rescue, restore and enhance the historic buildings of the Banting Homestead Heritage Park (BHHP), birthplace of Sir Frederick Banting, in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. The essential restoration and enhancement of the BHHP buildings and infrastructure creates a welcoming public venue and was completed in 2013.

Completion of the building restorations resulted in a unique, inspirational Canadian venue including the creation of the SFBLF Diabetes Management and Education Centre (DMEC).

The Foundation also created and designed informative exhibits in the restored historic buildings and delivers programs in support of our Mission – Fight Diabetes and Preserve a Legacy.
