Banting Legacy Week

Countries around the world celebrate World Diabetes Day (WDD) on November 14, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting. WDD was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization and became an official United Nations Day in 2007 with the passage of United Nations Resolution 61/225 including the ‘blue circle’ logo.

SFBLF hosts various events during the November 14 ‘week’ including an official ‘flagraising’ ceremony and birthday party at our DMEC.

Family Day

This is a fun-filled event for families and is held on a Saturday in mid-to-late September. The program is supported by magicians, face-painters, displays by local emergency services and staff from Base Borden.

Activities include various games, use of the exterior exercise equipment and a BBQ.

Doors Open

In September SFBLF joins many other venues throughout Simcoe County to host a special ‘Doors Open’ event at our DMEC. Activities include outdoor games, brief presentations on Banting, insulin discovery, diabetes and guided tours of the historic buildings and exhibits.

BMHS Annual Run

Each year, students from Banting Memorial High School (BMHS) hold an annual Run/Walk for diabetes to and from the Banting farmstead and SFBLF provide a BBQ for the participants.
